Our journey began with one child, one dream, and a service dog that changed everything.
Why did we begin the Paws for Autism Charity? Why is the charity now called Paws 4 Autism?
Adriana’s dream was to have a dog that would help her “be normal.” As a high-functioning child on the autism spectrum, Adriana often explained that her brain felt “scrambled,” which was her way of telling us it was going to be a challenging day.
Our dream was to keep Adriana safe. Adriana is what many would call a runner or eloper. She had no sense of danger and would often run into streets or parking lots, or wander off to explore anything that caught her interest. Simple everyday activities were stressful and unpredictable.
Providing trained service dogs that help children with autism stay calm, focused, and safe in everyday environments.
Helping families navigate autism challenges through service dogs, education, and community outreach.
Empowering children and individuals to build confidence, independence, and meaningful social connections.
As our journey continued, we realized the growing need for autism-specific service dog training and resources. What began as a dream for one child became a mission to serve many families facing similar challenges.
To create a world where individuals with autism, veterans, and others with disabilities can live safer, more independent, and fulfilling lives with the support of professionally trained service dogs.
To train and place service, therapy, and facility dogs while providing education, outreach, and support programs that strengthen families and communities.
